The Little Casita is written and illustrated by Graphic Artist Jessica Jean (J.J.) West. While restoring a run-down little casita in rural New Mexico and being visited daily by a free-roaming neighbor dog named “Buddy,” J.J. was inspired to create this charming children’s picture book.
Set in the desert Southwest, “The Little Casita” tells the story of a run-down casita and their only friend, Buddy, who tries again and again to find someone who will live in the casita and call it their home.
Buddy interviews four desert animals as they pass by: jackrabbit, roadrunner, coyote, and rattlesnake, by asking them the question, “Are you all alone? Will you come live in the casita and call it your home?” One by one, the desert animals explain why the Little Casita is not right for them. Finally, when nighttime comes, and hope is nearly lost, they hear a new sound coming from over the hill. Could this be the right one to call the little casita home?
Children and parents alike enjoy reading this story with its rolling, rhyming sentences, strong graphic illustrations, and silly sounds made by characters of the desert Southwest.
